A man suspected of being involved in a possible shooting led authorities on a chase through rural Yazoo County before being apprehended by deputies.
Patrick Nelson, 34, was charged with felony fleeing, resisting arrest and destroying county property last weekend.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said Nelson was wanted on a trespassing warrant and for questioning surrounding a possible shooting case.
Gann went searching for Nelson and found him in a vehicle at a stop sign on Castle Chapel Road in rural Yazoo County.
“Once I turned on Castle Chapel and got behind his vehicle, Nelson took off,” Gann said. “When I tried to catch up with him, I could tell that he was running from me. I turned on my signals and lights, chasing him to Dark Corner Road to Myrleville Road.”
On Myrleville Road, Gann said Nelson abandoned his vehicle and ran on foot into the nearby woods. Nelson was quickly apprehended by deputies.
“After detaining him and placing him in the back of a patrol car, he started tearing up the back of the car,” Gann said. “Those actions led to an additional charge.”
Another pursuit led to an arrest in a separate incident last Saturday.
Cedric Harris, 32, was charged with felony fleeing and domestic violence.
“There was a warrant for Harris’ arrest for domestic violence,” Gann said. “When a deputy attempted to stop him on that warrant, he led the deputy on a chase from Yazoo City to Bentonia. The chase ended in Bentonia when his tires blew out from spikes placed in the road.”
Both Nelson and Harris remained in jail as of press time.
