Members of the family of a man murdered in 2016 asked the Mayor and Board of Aldermen to help move the investigation forward Monday.
Felicia Davis said that she believes the family of DeAngelo Gant Brown has much better communication with the police department during current Police Chief Ron Sampson’s investigation and with Detective William Nevels now working the case.
“Detective Nevels has been keeping us up to date, and if it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t have any idea what was going on,” Davis said.
Brown, 24, was found dead from a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the Plaza Twin Cinema in February of 2016. Crimestoppers is offering a $2,000 reward in the case, but no arrests have been made.
“The family wants to know what the Mayor and Board of Aldermen is going to do concerning this case,” Davis said.
Mayor Diane Delaware said that the city is committing all available law enforcement resources to the case.
Davis alleged that part of the problem that has led to the case remaining unsolved was that an investigator previously assigned to the case withheld important information.
Davis said the family wants to know what kind of disciplinary actions will be taken against that investigator.
Delaware said the city cannot discuss personnel matters.
Anyone with any information regarding the murder of DeAngelo Gant Brown can report it anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 746-TIPS.
