A man who was upset about being evicted from his rental home for failure to pay rent is charged with arson.
James Ford was arrested last week and charged with arson.
Sheriff Jake Sheriff said Ford admitted that he set the house on fire where he previously lived on Old Benton Road.
“Witnesses who were inside the home said that Ford kicked in the front door while they were sleeping,” Sheriff said. “The next thing they knew the house was full of smoke.”
Ford had been evicted from the home the previous day by the owner after failing to pay rent for two months. The owner reported that Ford was very upset about being evicted.
Sheriff said Ford confessed to the crime the next day after he was arrested.
“He said he used the gas stove and a roll of toilet tissue,” Sheriff said. “He state that he placed it in the back was room and then left.”
