The Mayor and Board of Aldermen will hold a public hearing on Feb. 12 to consider dedicating a portion of Sunset Drive as “Charles Fulgham Way” in honor of former Mayor Charles “Blackie” Fulgham.
Ward 4 Alderman Aubry Brent Jr. originally presented the idea to the city board.
“He was an effective mayor, and he brought a lot of people together during his tenure,” Brent said.
When the city dedicates a street in honor of someone, it does not actually change the name of the street, but signs are placed above the street signs in honor of the individual being recognized. A portion of Fifteenth Street was recently dedicated in honor of the late Dr. Marion Sigrest.
