A couple didn’t want their Fourth of July celebrations to end Thursday night and decided to break into a Yazoo County firework stand.
Willie Bell was charged with business burglary, along with his wife Katie Bell who was also charged with accessory to business burglary.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said the two suspects were quickly apprehended after a deputy crashed into their getaway vehicle a few miles from the local firework stand on Highway 49.
“The husband broke into the firework stand, unaware that the owner was asleep inside the building,” Gann said. “The owner quickly called 911, and a deputy responded to the call. As the deputy was coming north on Highway 49, the suspects turned south with their lights off. They attempted to turn around at Myrleville Road, but with no lights on and being on top of that hill, the deputy collided with their vehicle.”
Gann said the couple was apprehended following the collision. He added that only the deputy was slightly injured in the accident.
The couple were denied bond and remained in jail as of press time.
