A local funeral home was burglarized this week with the suspect stealing loose change and a few bottles of embalming fluid.
A burglar gained entry into the Stricklin-King Funeral Home on Calhoun Avenue Tuesday evening through a side window.
“Whoever it was threw a rock through the south side window and came in through there,” said Matt King, with the funeral home. “He went through the desks in the front office and ransacked some other offices as well.”
Chief Jeff Curtis said no arrests had been made as of press time, but he felt confident with the department’s investigation.
“We have been having a rash of burglaries lately with people taking minimum stuff,” Curtis said. “We feel that there is a possibility of these burglaries being the same individual. We are running down our leads, using both physical and video evidence to determine an identity on who we think it is in these cases.”
Curtis said he anticipates an arrest soon.
“We feel confident to have closure soon on this incident and others,” he added.
King said when employees arrived at the funeral home Wednesday morning, the place “was a wreck.”
“He got all the change out of the soda machines, and he took some rolled change we had,” King said.
King said a few bottles of embalming fluid were also stolen from the funeral home’s preparation room.
It is known that the embalming fluid is sometimes used for dipping cigarettes, producing an effect similar to the hallucinogen drug PCP.
