Due to high water levels, the public boat landings at Wolf Lake are closed until further notice.
“The public landings are closed until the waters start to go down, which is uncertain at this point,” said Jack Willingham, Yazoo County emergency management director. “We really don’t know what is going to happen with the rain coming in, especially this Wednesday and Thursday.”
With recent heavy rainfall, the waters have continued to rise from the Mississippi and Yazoo River system. Flooding is common also during this time of the year.
“Flooding often occurs during the late spring and prompts the closing of the two public boat ramps,” said Jerry Brown, fisheries biologist with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
The waters are intruding onto people’s properties and even in homes along Wolf Lake. The boat ramp closures also deter water from continuing to being pushed onto those properties.
