Big changes are ahead for Yazoo’s grocery shoppers.
Kaye’s Food Market has purchased McDade’s and will soon open Yazoo’s largest grocery store in the current McDade’s location.
Matt Kaye with Kaye’s Food Market said that changes were inevitable with Walmart entering the local market, and his store is committed to the Yazoo community. Kaye’s Food Market plans to focus on providing the best customer service, value and grocery selection.
“We understand and even embrace several of the benefits that Walmart is bringing to Yazoo City and the county as a whole, especially as it relates to returning some of the sales tax dollars that are now being spent in other counties,” Kaye said. “But the hard truths are some of those benefits will be offset by closures and consolidations across many businesses. That’s a well-known fact and one we have seen on many many occasions through the years.”
Kaye said that Kaye’s Food Market will build on its strengths in order to thrive as Yazoo’s largest grocery store.
“There will always be an alternative to Walmart, and we are determined to provide our customers lots of reasons to shop with us,” Kaye said. “By combining two well-run supermarkets into one, we will be able to serve our customers with very competitive pricing, excellent customer service and an exceptional perishable selection that will offer freshness and quality in meat, deli and produce on a daily basis.”
Employees of Kaye’s Food Market are hard at work to ensure a smooth transition.
“The next several weeks will be carefully planned and coordinated,” Kaye said. “Initially, the McDade’s store will cease operating on Sunday, March 5 at 9 p.m., Beginning the next morning, we will be implementing an extensive and detailed remodel of the store. We are hopeful to be able to operate the deli/bakery during the period the rest of the store will be closed and are working with the various state departments to expedite this.”
If all goes according to schedule, the new store will be open before the end of the month.
“Our goal is to reopen the former McDade’s store as Kaye’s Food Market on Monday, March 27,” Kaye said. “Shortly thereafter, the existing Kaye’s store will close and we hope it will be repurposed in the coming future.”
Kaye’s Food Market will keep customers posted of the progress along the way.
“We will regularly post signs in both facilities and communicate updates to the schedule through The Herald,” Kaye said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and consideration while we work to offer an excellent shopping experience for many years to come.”
