The Yazoo community is mourning the loss of two educators who touched countless lives during their careers and left lasting legacies.
Marion Ann Ledbetter, who taught for over three decades and served as headmaster at Benton Academy, died Friday.
Coach Peter Boston, who coached for over 30 years in the Yazoo City Public Schools, died Monday morning.
Ledbetter taught at Bentonia in her early teaching career and taught at Benton Academy for 32 years. During the course of her career she taught every grade except second grade.
Boston, a native of Laurel, arrived in Yazoo City in 1956 at the Yazoo City Training School. Through his career in Yazoo schools, he coached football, basketball and track.
Some of Boston’s students went on to make names for themselves, including Willie Brown, Elex Price and Gentle Ben Williams. Boston retired in 1987, but he continued to be a presence in the community.
Funeral services for Ledbetter were Sunday at Benton Methodist Church. Arrangements were not yet available for Boston at press time.
