Alderman Aubry Brent Jr. said it is time for the animal control officer to make regular reports to the city council.
David Rogers, the city’s animal control officer, has not appeared before the new Board of Mayor and Aldermen. During this week’s board meeting, Brent suggested that he visits the city leaders to keep them informed of animal control within Yazoo City, as well as provide updates to citizens.
The suggestion came with Brent noting that the community has a problem with stray animals.
“The town is inundated with stray dogs,” Brent said. “Two pit bulls just walked up in my yard last week. My dog was out there, and I was afraid they were going to attack my dog.”
By Rogers attending the city council meetings, Brent said his procedure and responsibilities are put on the table for discussion.
“There are certain things the animal control officer should know,” Brent said. “There are certain things he is to do in terms of performing his job. The public wants to know that he is doing that. Just like we have out other department heads come in and address the board, I would like the animal control officer to come in and basically let us know what he is doing to protect these animals and keep people safe.”
