The Yazoo City Police Department has made several arrests connected to aggravated assault cases.
Interim Police Chief Jay Winstead said that the department has 25 aggravated assault cases since the beginning of this year’s first quarter. Of those, he said all suspects have been arrested or have an outstanding warrant.
“We are becoming proactive in serving these warrants to close these cases and provide justice to the victims and their families,” Winstead said. “We will continue these efforts to better serve and protect our city.”
Marquan Washington was apprehended last weekend on aggravated assault and aggravated domestic violence warrants from April of 2019.
Lorenzo Green was arrested on aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon warrants from last February. When officers arrested him last weekend, he was found with a gun, leading to an additional possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charge.
Rateisha Collum was also apprehended last Thursday on an aggravated assault warrant from October of 2019.
In other police news, Winstead reminds the community that the police department will be enforcing the local COVID restrictions during the Memorial Day holiday. Large gatherings or house parties will not be allowed, and homeowners will face citations if necessary.
