A 36-year-old Yazoo City man died in a fire at Shady Lane Apartments early Tuesday morning.
Lendell Watson III was found inside Apartment 17H.
Firefighters found Watson unresponsive in the smoke-filled apartment after entering. They attempted to resuscitate him, but he was later pronounced dead by paramedics on the scene.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Watson appears to have died from smoke inhalation, but an investigation will be conducted to confirm the cause.
The fire was reported at 1:47 a.m., and the Yazoo City Fire Department and District 3 Fire Department responded.
Many Yazooans were mourning Watson’s loss Tuesday morning. Watson was employed at Baptist Medical Center Yazoo. Friends remembered him as a kind a caring person who always had a positive attitude. He was a 1999 graduate of Yazoo City High School.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
