Two weeks after a man was reported missing, a suspect has been charged with his murder. And investigators believe the suspect may have also murdered his accomplice who helped hide the victim’s body.
Tommy White Jr., 38, was charged with the murder of Phillip Dunn, a man who was reported missing by his family on Feb. 4. And more charges could be coming for White after the body of his alleged accomplice, Marcus Journigan, was discovered in Jackson.
As of press time, the body of Dunn had not been recovered. However, areas of interest have been searched.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said the investigation following Dunn’s disappearance led to White.
“We believe that Dunn was murdered at a home in Yazoo City,” Gann said. “The suspect allegedly shot Dunn because he was on his cell phone, making the suspect nervous.”
Gann said he believes Journigan then helped White dispose of Dunn’s body. However, the accomplice soon became another victim.
“The Jackson Police Department contacted me about finding the body of Journigan on some tracks,” Gann said. “All the evidence points to White being the person who murdered Journigan as well.”
Dunn was reported missing earlier this month, and his vehicle was found on Highway 49 toward Belzoni, between the Yazoo River bridge and Carter Road last week.
Blood was also found inside Dunn’s vehicle, and the state crime lab confirmed it was human blood this week. However, as of press time, it had not been determined whose blood was found inside the vehicle.
The murder investigation continues, and more charges are pending for White.
