Eight families lost their homes and possessions on the week of Christmas during a Monday morning fire at Shady Lane Apartments.
The fire destroyed Building 11 at the apartment complex, displacing 32 people including children from six months to 17 years old.
Terry Harber, chief of the Yazoo City Fire Department, said the fire spread quickly after reaching the building’s attic. Harber noted that the same building was damaged by fire last year.
How to Help
Jack Willingham, Yazoo County Emergency Management director, said that his office will collect donations for the families.
Items can also be brought to The Yazoo Herald office.
Clothes needed include sizes 18 months, 43T, T, 5T, 6T, 6, 8 and 10. One girl wears size 5T clothes and size 10 shoes. One boy wears size 4T clothes and size nine shoes.
A more complete list will be posted online and The Herald’s social media pages as soon as possible.
