Although the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors did not intend to raise taxes, a sudden change in the county school request will increase taxes by about one mill.
There was no one present during the public hearing concerning the upcoming fiscal year budget Tuesday morning. About an hour after the hearing, the county board approved the upcoming budget.
The county tax rate will increase from 114.26 mills to 115.33 mills.
The Yazoo County Board of Supervisors will maintain its millage rate of 70.8 mills, which remains the same from last year. However, the Yazoo County School District requested an increase of 43.46 mills to 44.53. By law, the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors has to accept the school district's request.
Donna Kraft, county administrator, said a mill for the county school district runs about $164,000.
