The Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility welcomes a new warden with the appointment of Chaz White.
The appointment was announced during last week’s Yazoo County Board of Supervisors open meeting.
But along with new leadership, consultant Jerry Williams shared with the county leaders that some of the jail’s employees are threatening to “walk out,” adding that some of the employees on the county side of the facility are not pleased with the new direction.
“We are starting to make some changes already,” Williams said. “(The new warden) shook the county (side) up pretty good. We have some folks who are not happy with the change that is taking place. The rumor mill is that they are going to do a walk-out on the county side, which will require some people to work overtime. If happens, I know we have been offering comp time. But we would like to ask for permission for them to be compensated if we have some people who will have to work double shift.”
Williams added that the unhappy employees have been at the facility for at least a year. Supervisor Cobie Collins asked if the potential walk-out is related to money.
“It is not because of that they are threatening to walk out,” said White. “We had to brief the shift with being at their posts, doing what they are supposed to be doing during those regular hours.”
“They are the ones who came in with the last warden,” said Supervisor Willie Wright. “You know exactly what I am talking about.”
But White confirmed with the county board that the situation would be handled accordingly.
“I’m glad to see you there,” Wright added. “Maybe it’s some who should have been gone. We appreciate what you are doing.”
