If one studies history, he will find that most nations rise and fall in a relatively short period of time.
Democracies seems to exist for an even shorter time. The United States as a recognized country has existed for 232 years, and our demise may be overdue.
I hate to be someone who looks at the nation through pessimistic eyes, but I think what happened in Washington last week may be a glimpse into our future.
Several years ago I wrote a column that was inspired by a Russian named Igor Panrin who predicted that the United States would break up into several countries. China will take over the far Western states (starting with California), and Mexico will annex Texas and the southern areas of the country. Russia will re-claim Alaska, and Canada and the European Union will control the eastern section of the country, When he first published his predictions, I laughed. America will never break up into separate countries because we have become too successful.
Today, I am not so sure. Panarin points out that our number one vulnerability is the dollar. The dollar is backed up by nothing. The United States has a printing press, and we print the amount of money we need.
Second, the country speaks with numerous voices. The South speaks with a voice that is unrecognized by the North, and the West finds new and unreal things to burden their citizens.
Mexico is sending thousands of its citizens to America, and it has one purpose. To reclaim the section of the country it lost during the wars with America.
Ten years ago, Panarin predicted that there is “a 45-55 percent chance that the United States will disintegrate by the year 2020. I do not think we can dismiss Panarin’s predictions because the stage is set for his predictions to come true.
One can never predict the mechanism that starts the breakup of any nation, but the fact that many believe that the election of 2020 was stolen could be the spark that sends this country into chaos and revolution. I listened to Mitch “The Turtle” McConnell make his speech before the Senate, and I saw a weak man, a man ready to do anything but stand up for the country.
Earlier I had stood in disbelief as the Supreme Court refused to hear cases of election fraud, and did it with no thought of what may lay ahead in the future. Our courts are designed to settle disputes, but the Supreme Court, acting out of fear that the Democrats would pack the court if they achieved power, refused to listen to even one case.
The United States Senate is filled with politicians – not statesmen. The main objective of a modern senator is to get re-elected.
Somehow, a majority of the senators favor socialism, perhaps even communism, and they never mention that no nation in history has ever made socialism work. In fact, socialism enslaves the citizens and prevent innovation. One person asked me last week if “we were too stupid to survive as a nation?” My answer was, “I don’t know.”
There are several trigger points that may cause problems for our country. First, the second amendment will come under fierce attack and your guns stand a reasonable chance of being confiscated. Retirement accounts may be seized in favor of a “government check” Regulations of all types will be imposed on oil and gas companies. Don’t be surprised if the price of a gallon of gas exceeds $5 per gallon in the near future. Freedom of speech will be restricted, and the First Amendment will be neutered. Taxes will rise substantially, and the unemployment rolls will grow.
Surprisingly, I don’t blame all of this on the Democrats even though this is their stated goals. Weak Republican senators, Mississippi has two, allowed these things to happen.
We may have reached a point of no return, but only time will tell. I see no one in Washington who can turn the tide, and I certainly don’t feel enthusiastic about Joe Biden’s chances.
Unfortunately, Panarin may be right.
