A juvenile has been charged with capital murder after an elderly man died from a gunshot wound at a local hospital last night.
Tyler Fleming, 15, was charged with capital murder after being arrested by officers from the Yazoo City Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
Police Chief Jay Winstead said officers were first dispatched to the Baptist Memorial Hospital-Yazoo emergency room in response to a report of a gunshot victim around 8 p.m. Tuesday. Winstead said the victim was a 65-year-old male.
“Officers went to his home on Willie Brown Street, where he had been shot,” Winstead said. “The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was requested to assist. After processing the scene and interviewing witnesses, agents with MBI and the YCPD took 15-year-old Tyler Fleming into custody, charging him with capital murder.”
Winstead said more arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues. As of press time, Fleming was being held at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility.
