A $2.2 million dollar paving project on Highway 3 has started thanks to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Yazoo County was one of 11 projects in western Mississippi.
“As Commissioner, I am pleased to report that our infrastructure projects are not just moving forward, but gaining momentum as we move towards the end of 2023,” said Commissioner Willie Simmons, of the Central Transportation District. “We’re replacing bridges and paving the way towards a brighter, safer and more connected future. Please do your part by slowing down and staying alert for roadside workers throughout these work zones.”
The mill and overlay of Highway 3 in Yazoo County recently started with crews currently milling and paving the mainline.
The $2.2 million project was awarded to APAC-Mississippi, Inc. of Jackson. Remaining work is expected to wrap up by the end of the fall.
“This kind of investment into our state’s infrastructure system is going a long way in improving safety and efficiency in western Mississippi,” said Simmons. “Our commitment to progress is unwavering and we are going to continue this momentum one project at a time.”
Highway work zones are meant to protect the traveling public and the highway workers on the side of the road. Highway work zones can be found throughout the state and often present unfamiliar traffic conditions. A webpage that aims to keep the public informed regarding significant, active projects is live. It provides up-to-date information on project timelines, progress and any potential road closures or detours that may be associated with the project.
