The Manchester Academy Mavericks used a steady stream of long range daggers last Thursday to propel themselves to a 50-34 victory over rival Benton Academy.
Led by Brendan Thrasher’s three three pointers, the Maverick sharpshooters got almost half of their points, 24, from behind the three-point line in the 16 point victory. Also connecting from deep were Jake White (two), Jon Parker Dees (two) and Tobias McGee (one).
Manchester led from start to finish against the Raiders, posting a 9-6 first quarter and a 10-6 second to take a 19-12 lead into the intermission.
Thrasher hit back-to-back threes during the third quarter which sparked a 19-5 MA run and led to a 38-17 lead after three quarters of play.
Benton outscored Manchester 17-12 in the final frame, but the damage was already done.
Dees and White led Manchester in scoring with 14 and 12 points respectively.
Thrasher added nine, Ben Choate and Adam Edgar each had four, McGee had three, and Reed Roberts and Archer Choate each had two.
Colin Washington was the only Raider to reach double figures with 14 points.
Bryce Ables scored seven, Garrett Vandevere had four, Lance Turner had three and Parker Nelson, James Patterson and Christopher Rankin each had two.
Manchester hosted Porter’s Chapel on Tuesday and travels to Deer Creek on Thursday while Benton plays two road games this week at Greenville Christian on Tuesday and Delta Streets on Thursday.
