Two Yazoo County horse riders returned home with quite the hardware following the National Barrel Horse Association Youth and Teen World Championship.
Lynlee Martin and Charlee Kate Peterson recently headed to Perry, Ga. to compete against 1,326 riders in a national championship that hailed competition against ten countries and 2,286 competing horses. With such a wide range of competition, only 209 entries made it back to the finals.
Both Martin and Peterson were among those who made it to the finals.
Peterson entered the redemption round and won the 3d, claiming a spot in the finals. She won 2d-8th in the finals.
“It’s an honor to be able to be part of such an event,” Peterson said. “I would like to thank God, my parents, and Mr. Lance Davis with Yazoo County Farm Bureau for believing in me and helping make this happen. And I would also like to thank Dr Vice with Dixie Equine, for keeping my horses healthy so that I am able to accomplish such milestones.”
The National Barrel Horse Association, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, is the largest barrel racing organization in the world.
