An argument during a basketball game led to bloodshed in Yazoo City last weekend that left one victim dead from multiple gunshot wounds and another victim recovering from injuries.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Dontavious Weekly, 29, of Yazoo City, was pronounced dead on the scene, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police Chief Terry Gann said another victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Gann added that investigators are looking for a possible suspect now but would prefer to release names later.
The shooting occurred last Friday around 7 p.m. in the 300 block of Chapman Street. Upon arrival, officers found two subjects suffering from gunshot wounds.
“A group was playing a basketball game, and an argument ensued over the game itself,” Gann said. “Following the argument, shots were fired, striking two individuals.”
Shivers said one victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening wounds. However, Weekly was pronounced dead on the scene.
