Lydia Sligh passed away on Sept. 16, 2025 at Riverview Nursing and Rehab in Greenwood. She was 88 years old.
Lydia was born in Benton, Mississippi to Lydia North Stubblefield Avery and David Fort Stubblefield. She attended elementary school there and later attended Benton High School, where she was a cheerleader and a basketball player. She graduated in 1954.She attended MSCW for one year until deciding to get married and start a family. She married James Ray Sligh, and together they had one daughter, Lydia Raye.
Lydia was a bookkeeper working at Mississippi Chemical Corporation in Yazoo City, LA Penn and Sons in Canton, later retiring from Bridges Mortgage Co. in Jackson.
Lydia never met a stranger, was a loyal friend and was known as the life of the party. She loved her classmates from Benton and tried to organize reunions often. Lydia was a devoted, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a huge Saints fan!
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Greenwood.
Lydia is survived by her daughter, Raye Hodges (Ray) of Greenwood; grandsons, Justin Hodges (Sally) of Madison, Channing Hodges (Michelle) of Greenwood and Landon Hodges (Mallory) of Minter City; and great grandchildren, William and Hyatt Hodges, Emma, Hannah Grace, and Whitt Hodges and Daisy Raye Hodges; and her cat, Katy.
The family would like to thank her faithful sitters, Lillie Swims, Diane Miller, and Beverly Jackson, Dr Kenneth Hines, Accent Care Home Health and Riverview Nursing and Rehab.
Funeral services will be held at Strickling King Funeral Home on Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Phillip Dearman officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the funeral service. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Pall Bearers will be Justin Hodges, Channing Hodges, Landon Hodges, William Hodges, Whitt Hodges and Charlie Montgomery.
