Warden Otis Bailey announces his retirement, and he will be stepping down from his post at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility at the end of December.
Bailey announced his retirement during the recent Yazoo County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday. He said he has always appreciated the county board’s support at the local jail facility.
“The facility is moving in the right direction, and I have nothing negative to say about the facility,” Bailey said. “I have enjoyed working in this county. It is not my first time here. I was here in 2012 at the satellite prison. When I came back, it was my first time to work directly with a sheriff in my career. It has been a privilege working with Sheriff Jacob Sheriff. I appreciate his leadership and guidance.”
Bailey arrived at the local jail as its new warden in December of 2020, following the resignation of former warden Jay Shaw.
Bailey said he hopes the county board will consider a few of his recent requests for improving the facility before he retires. One of his major goals is to install razor wire along the fence perimeter to curtail the contraband getting into the facility. And he said he hopes the new updated security system will be installed over the next several weeks.
“There are issues, but once we get on down the road with what we want to do, the facility will be a more secure place,” Bailey said. “If you pay a little on the front end, you will reap the rewards on the back end. You will have less problems, but we have to have the resources to secure the facility and keep its people and workers safe.”
