The National Weather Services has not officially confirmed that a tornado ripped through portions of Yazoo County yesterday. But local officials already said they feel certain one did come through the community based on the level of damage left in the weather's path.
Jack Willingham, Yazoo County emergency management director, said he continues to gather reports today. But as of now, there are about 25 properties with reported damage.
For a second straight week Yazoo Valley Electric suffered significant damage to its system from storms.
Yesterday's strong storm caused over 1,600 Yazoo Valley members to lose power. Crew members worked through the night to restore power, and by this afternoon most of the power had been restored.
Some of the greatest challenges were on George Saxton Road and Patterson Road in Yazoo County. Both areas suffered heavy damage and many trees had to be cleared in order to access the electric lines.
Storm recovery efforts were winding down by this afternoon. Any Yazoo Valley Electric members still without power should call 1-866-484-4277.
More details surrounding the severe weather will appear in the next edition of The Yazoo Herald.
