Yazoo County school officials are taking cautious measures to maintain a safe environment at the county high school following reports of tension among students in other school districts. With Yazoo being a tight-knit community, county school leaders recently addressed the potential of off-campus issues arriving at Yazoo County High School.
During last Friday’s basketball game at the county school, school leaders restricted admittance to its campus to sustain a secure environment. Yazoo County seniors were allowed to have ten submitted guests, and all other current players were allowed to bring two.
Law enforcement was present at the recent basketball game, and only those who were identified as guests of the teams were allowed to enter the campus.
Dr. Ken Barron, county school district superintendent, said reports of possible tension among non-Yazoo County students led to last week’s measures.
“We took our measures to exercise an abundance of caution in an effort to be proactive versus reactive,” Barron said. “However, no incident occurred at our high school, and it was one of the smoothest running games we have ever had. But we will continue to take extra safety measures to keep our campuses safe and secure.”
