The Yazoo County Sheriff's Department has received numerous reports of a scam circulating throughout the community over the last few days. It has been reported that scammers have been contacting many citizens, claiming to be a representative of the sheriff's department.
"These scammers are calling citizens, claiming to be investigators with the sheriff's department," said Simon Stubblefield, with the Yazoo County Sheriff's Department. "They have been asking for money, mostly to be placed on Green Dot cards. The sheriff's department and local justice court do not make such requests."
Stubblefield said the department has been receiving reports of the scam over the last three days. Unfortunately, he said some have fallen for it.
"This is a scam," he said. "Our department, nor justice court, would contact you asking for money. That is not what we do, and we want the public to be aware of these scam calls that are circulating through our community."
