When John Moore was a small child, he would often accompany his father, Bill Moore, on various work trips in the insurance industry. Holding a Game Boy console and strapped into his child car seat, he would join his father on road trips to deliver contracts. Eager to see what his father did for a living, he soaked up the entire experience, unaware that it was shaping his own future.
“I remember we went to Ripley once, and it was near Oxford,” John said. “During our stop in Oxford, I got to meet Eli Manning and Bill Flowers. I kind of thought the insurance business was an interesting job where you got to meet college athletes. I know that is not the case always, but it was interesting how everything came full circle as I got older.”
A Madison native, Moore graduated from Madison Central High School before heading to the University of Mississippi to pursue his studies in risk management and insurance…just like his father. After earning his degree in 2016, he spent the next nine years as an underwriter for AmFed National Insurance Company and Stonetrust National Insurance Company.
But now he is eager to take his career to a more personal level, working as an agent at Livingston Insurance Agency. And a familial connection remains with his father also working at the local agency.
“I am at a point in my life where I think I have figured out what I really want to do,” he said, with a smile. “I think it is all about serving other people. I served people in my career where I was, but it was in such a different way. I think being on this side allows me to access everybody.”
“He has worked for insurance carriers, so his customers had been agencies like us,” his father Bill added. “Now, he will be able to handle personal lines but also commercial sales.”
John hopes to bring wisdom, service and knowledge to his new path at Livingston. And for Kip and William Carroll, they are eager to welcome John’s adaptability to their family business, which holds over a century of customer service.
“One of the things about insurance is that things are changing,” Kip said. “John is very bright and is on the cutting edge of how things are going. He is going to bring a lot of ability to adapt, to better serve customers in ways that are going to be more natural for him.”
And it is that connection with people that inspired John to consider the insurance industry as his career path.
“It’s a people industry, and I think that was what was so inviting to me,” John said. “Every day you are going to be talking and dealing with people. It is not just one person. It is multiple different people throughout the day. I enjoy the small talk. I think that is what keeps humans going…communication and relationships.”
“And he is an extrovert,” William added, with a laugh. “You have to be in the insurance business.”
Providing people with peace of mind and an assurance that they are being taken care of is what motivates John to continue his passion daily.
“That helps me sleep at night, knowing that they are in good hands,” he said.
And although relationships are the most rewarding aspect of his profession, John admits adapting to the industry’s innovations and technologies can be challenging. But he is a firm believer who is constantly pursuing the knowledge to adapt.
“There are always things in insurance that change constantly,” John said. “I think educating yourself and having the attitude to continue learning is the most important thing.”
Outside of work, John enjoys spending time with his wife Laura Lee and their son Henry, who will be turning two years old soon. When he is not at home, he can be found playing golf or working with martial arts. And that constant quest for knowledge can be found in traveling and cooking.
Best trip?
“Italy,” he said, without hesitation.
John is eager to dive into the local community and is excited to begin his next chapter at Livingston. Perhaps he will have his own son in the back seat on one of his business outings, creating a new chapter for the next generation.
