The Yazoo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated Constitution Week with a display at Ricks Memorial Library.
The display was done by Beja Everette, Yazoo Chapter Constitution Week Chairman, and Sue Patterson, Yazoo Chapter Regent.
In 1955, the Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress to dedicate September17-23 as U.S. Constitution Week. This U.S. Constitution sets forth the framework for our federal government. It was signed in 1787, but wasn’t ratified until nine states signed it in 1788. This Constitution was unlike any document before because it stated that the people have a say in the governing of their lives. The Constitution is the foundation for our American way of life. It is time for all Americans to reflect and accept their responsibility to protect, defend and preserve the Constitution of the United States of America.
Visit Ricks Memorial Library and check out books about the Constitution for children, youth and adult.
There are also cards with the Preamble to the Constitution and tiny American flags that you may have.
