The Yazoo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently honored the country’s Founding Fathers declaring their Independence from Britain 245 years ago in 1776 to form this great nation.
The Yazoo Chapter DAR has a Fourth of July display at Ricks Memorial Library. It was assembled by Sue Patterson, Yazoo Chapter Regent, Beja Everette, Yazoo Chapter Treasurer and JoAnne Collins, Yazoo Chapter Vice Regent.
The display shows the Declaration of Independence where you can see the names of the brave 56 signers who knew once they signed their names, their lives would be at risk. Five of the signers were branded traitors, tortured and killed by the British. Nine fought and died in the Revolutionary War. Two lost sons, and two were captured by the British. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
Sue Patterson, Yazoo Chapter Regent, presented the book “The Journey of the one and Only Declaration of Independence” by Judith St. George to Craig Wooten, Director of Ricks Memorial Library
Come visit this display and pick up your tiny American Flag, pamphlets on the American Flag and Declaration of Independence and the American Creed/ Pledge of Allegiance cards. On this National holiday, we honor those Patriots - men and women who helped form a new nation.
