Dear Editor,
I would like to thank you for the article that ran in your newspaper about the large assessment fee charged by the city after the purchase of my property.
The article has caused an outcry from family and friends, but as of yet there still has been no help from the city who assessed these fees or the county, who collects the taxes.
The mayor called a meeting with Vanessa Knox and myself. To my astonishment, all she seemed to want to do was chastise us for going to the newspaper with the story. My sentiments are that she had no intention of helping us as she promised to do when we first met with her about this problem.
I commend Jamie Patterson for her tireless work on this issue, and The Yazoo Herald for allowing it to be printed. Maybe it will help others to know that after all the title searches with the county, an assessment can be done at the end of the year and charges brought to bear on the new owner of proper, even though the previous owners are the ones charged these assessments.
Buyer Beware!
Once again, thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
JoAnn Little
