Dear Editor,
Perhaps many of your readers haven't heard of Senior Citizens Day. Well, the Seniors of Calvary Baptist Church certainly have.
President Ronald Regan initiated this day in 1988. It (August 21) was set apart to acknowledge the life-long contributions our nation's seniors have made to their community and country. President Regan said, "For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and heartfelt salute."
Therefore, each first Sunday of the month, the senior citizens of Calvary adorn themselves in special attire (red, black, and white) to commemorate their accomplishments. They are "standouts" who acknowledge the blessings which God has placed upon them, and in humble recognition demonstrate to others that seniors are God's gift to the next generation.
Each month, the seniors of Calvary participate in fun activities, counsel with local youths, and also visit nursing homes and schools.
Under the leadership of Bishop RaSean O. Thomas, the Seniors of Calvary located at 412 West Broadway invite you to attend our Senior Recognition Day Service, Sunday, August 21 at 11 a.m.
Sincerely,
Emma Clark
