Dear Editor
Recently Trinity Church had a revival, which is rarely done by Episcopal churches. It turned out to have broader implications than just one church as by the time it was done it involved many of churches in Yazoo City.
The reason was that Bishop Edward Duku of South Africa led the revival with Fr. George Woodliff. Bishop Duku has been instrumental in Revive Yazoo, which will be happening for the third time this July, and he is an internationally acclaimed evangelist.
Consequently, 10 ministers from Baptist Brotherhood Association and the Yazoo City Ministerial Association attended two or more of the revival sessions along with members of their churches. The Word of Truth Praise Choir participated in two of the sessions as well.
The vision behind the revival was inspired by Isaiah 40:31 and titled “2016 the Year of Soaring Like an Eagle”. The messages over the three nights encompassed using the characteristics of the eagle to strengthen our every day Christian lives; how to become a better Christian by learning to wait for Lord and how to learn like Esther to waiting upon the Lord to put you in the right place at the right time when things look bleak (Romans8:28).
The messages are universal in how they affect individuals, churches and communities. The Bishop made a wonderful point in affirming that Yazoo City has the most successful working relationship of black and white churches doing God's work in and for the community that he has ever seen in America!
