Dear Editor:
I have listened to the Yazoo City Mayor and Alderman meetings on the radio with interest for a long time.
I have noticed that perhaps there is not a clear picture of whom the Yazoo City Historic Preservation commission Board consists of currently in 2016.
Current Board Members are Karen Dunaway, John Ellzey, JoDale Merrill, Peggy Heckler and Larry Thomas. These were all appointed by the city and do a wonderful job.
However, There is a "Historic Preservation Foundation" that is a private non-profit organization that does not have any relationship nor connection to the City Preservation Commission. The Members of this concern themselves with the "National Historic District" designated in 1978 and covered in a map published in 2004, thus covered by the original Local Preservation Ordinances.
As a homeowner within the proposed new "Local Historic District" I wanted to make sure citizens were clear as to how each function in Yazoo City. Please contact the above board members who work hard to help preservation of Yazoo City architectural history.
Sincerely,
Paul C. Cartwright
