Dear Editor,
As the community is aware by now, that little church in Satartia not only has a big heart, but busy feet as well.
As the 2016/2017 school year began, Satartia First adopted Bentonia Gibbs Elementary, the largest elementary school in the county, and then went on to educate pastors in the local ministry association as to how their churches too could become involved enhancing the lives of area children and supporting the work of our educators.
The church kicked off the community outreach by giving away and serving over 400 catfish plates (FREE), catered by Penn's Catfish. From providing backpacks of food for students who might go hungry on the weekend otherwise, to providing uniforms and school supplies for children in need, the Satartia family of faith has been busy serving this community through a great faith/community partnership, as it were.
However, as with most things new, when the new wears off, the people fade away. Satartia First continues to provide the services noted to Bentonia Gibbs through the adopt-a-school program created, but community support has fallen off.
If you would like to help Satartia First as it continues to help our children and support our county educators, please contact me at 601-668-4584, or
broroyce1@yahoo.com. Several food supply items are needed at this time to continue the 'backpack' ministry - providing food to children who may otherwise go hungry when they are not at school.
God bless and Thank you.
