Again, the hydraulics of the South Delta flooding is misunderstood by uninformed individuals.
Jill Mastrototaro (Audubon Mississippi) failed to recognize facts as so well pointed out in a previous letter by Mrs. Adcock (Letters to the Editor, Yazoo Herald, Saturday, May 25, 2019).
Previously, U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson gave voice to his ignorance of Corps of Engineers facts, stating that he was concerned about what would happen downstream when huge pumps dumped South Delta waters into the Mississippi River. Peter Nimrod (Mississippi Levee Board) assured me, face to face, that the designed pumps at the maximum flow would raise the Mississippi River level much less than an inch, probably less than one half inch.
Now, Tim Kalich, a political hack (my opinion) without the facts, berates South Deltans for wanting pumps that will assault (?) the rest of the Mississippi River drainage with less than one half inch of water.
With water surrounding my house site, I well understand that the half inch of water is significant. By raising the Mississippi River a half inch, 500,000 plus acres, hundreds of homes, thousands of humans, and countless wildlife could have been spared. When you write about and vote about South Delta flooding, get the FACTS from the professionals, not politicians.
