Governor Tate Reeves, Attorney General Lynn Fitch, and Commissioner Sean Tindell hosted the Governor’s Public Safety Awards ceremony to honor four public safety leaders who have gone above and beyond to answer the call of duty. The awards were a part of the 3rd annual Public Safety Summit. This year’s awardees are:
- Sergeant Brian Brock, DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office
- Investigator Lee Sanders, Madison Police Department
- Battalion Chief Allen Elliot, Pearl Fire Department
- Assistant District Attorney Jasmine Magee, 2nd Judicial District of Mississippi
Governor Reeves recognized Sergeant Brian Brock with the First Responder of the Year Award.
“In Mississippi, we will always appreciate, support, and have the backs of our law enforcement officers, prosecutors, firefighters and first responders,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “Sergeant Brock is a hero, and I was proud to present him with the First Responder of the Year Award. There’s no doubt that his bravery saved lives. He is a prime example of what it means to protect and serve.”
General Fitch awarded Assistant District Attorney Jasmine Magee with the Prosecutor of the Year Award.
“Mississippi’s prosecution teams are amongst the finest in the nation. Together, we are dedicated to defending and achieving justice and to seeing crime victims as more than statistics,” said Attorney General Lynn Fitch. “Jasmine brings compassion, integrity, and thoughtfulness to every case she touches. She approaches prosecution not as a job, but as a calling and we are lucky to have her serving our great State."
Commissioner Tindell recognized Investigator Lee Sanders as the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.
“I am proud to recognize Investigator Lee Sanders for his extraordinary courage and selfless service. His actions reflect the highest standards of law enforcement, and he exemplifies what it means to be a true hero. It is an honor to recognize him as the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year,” said Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell. “Congratulations to all of our award recipients. Thank you for your unwavering dedication and for going above and beyond in service to our state and public safety.“
Mike Chaney, Commissioner of Insurance and State Fire Marshal, was unable to attend, and State Fire Coordinator Reed Abraham presented Battalion Chief Allen Elliot with the Firefighter of the Year Award.
"Battalion Chief Elliott always goes beyond his call to duty as a leader and First Responder in saving lives and protecting the public. We are proud he has been named Firefighter of the Year for our State," said Mississippi Department of Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Chaney.
