The Yazoo County Lady Panthers are off to a 3- start in conference play after cruising to wins over Thomas Edwards, Amanda Elzy and O’Bannon.
YHCS, 9-3 overall, 3-0 in district, posted an 18-1 victory over Thomas Edwards, a 9-4 win over Amanda Elzy and a 19-0 shutout victory over O’Bannon.
Junior Lilly Andrews led the way at the plate against Thomas Edwards, driving in five runs on a pair of doubles in the first and second innings.
Jaylin Foster hit a first inning single to score two runs and the Lady Panthers scored eight runs on six hits in the top of the second.
Foster, Mollie Blackwell, Anna Kiley Leal, and Madyson Collins all had singles in the inning to score runs.
YCHS totalled 10 hits in the contest led by Andrews, Collins, Leal and Foster each with two hits.
Andrews was smoking on the mound, striking out 10 batters while giving up one run on one hit and a walk.
Andrews was at it again on the hill against Amanda Elzy, totalling an amazing 20 strikeouts in the 5-run win.
She allowed just three hits and four runs over seven innings while walking two.
Leal collected five hits in five at bats during the win. She doubled in the third, and singled in the first, fourth and seventh innings.
Elzy took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after a YCHS fielding error led to two runs.
Andrews hit a single to tie the game in the top of the third, and the Lady Panthers took the lead in the top of the fourth after Andrews tripled to score a run along with an Elzy error.
Elzy, however, tied the game again, at four this time, in the bottom half of the inning.
The Lady Panthers took the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning off of a pair of doubles from Andrews and Tommy Lynn Gardner that scored runs.
Yazoo County totaled 12 hits in the game led by a 4-for-4 performance from Andrews with 4 RBI. Gardner had two hits for Yazoo County and Leal had three stolen bases.
Another big first inning catapulted the Lady Panthers to the 19-0 shutout win over O’Bannon.
Yazoo County virtually put things out of reach with a 12-run first inning in which several Lady Panthers put the stick on the ball.
Gardner and Collins both doubled to score runs and Andrews, Leal and Remi Rutherford either singled, had a walk or a fielder’s choice to plate runs.
After a scoreless O’Bannon inning, the Lady Panthers picked up where they left off in the second inning, scoring six runs on three hits.
Leal stroked one over the outfield fence to score two runs, Blackwell and Foster drew walks to score runs, and Gardner grounded out to score a run.
Andrews earned the win on the mound and had three strikeouts. Leal pitched two innings in relief and struck out six batters while walking none.
