Local deputies partnered with Canton police officers this week in the apprehension and arrest of a juvenile wanted for murder.
Sheriff Jeremy McCoy said a 16-year-old juvenile was arrested at Yazoo County High School last Wednesday and has been placed in custody at the Canton Police Department. The juvenile was wanted in connection to a Canton murder case.
The juvenile’s identity has not been released.
“In response to this operation, Chief Williams of Yazoo County Schools briefly placed Yazoo County High School on restricted movement, emphasizing our commitment to the safety of our community,” McCoy said. “We are pleased to report that the arrest was made without incident.”
Dr. Ken Barron, superintendent of the local county school district, said the school’s safety remained a priority, adding that the district is in full cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
“I am writing to emphasize the safety and security of our students and staff remain our utmost priority during and following the apprehension of a high school student on criminal charges,” Barron said, via social media. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies in their investigation and will take all necessary steps to continue to ensure the safety of our school community.”
