On Monday, March 24, 2025, Jaye Woods Gramling, faithful wife, loving mother, and beloved grandmother, passed peacefully in her sleep at Indywood in Indianola, MS, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 82. A native of Yazoo County, Mrs. Gramling was born to the late Edgar Sylvester Woods and Ada Lowery Woods. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her husband, Bob Gramling of Greenville, MS; her brother, Vernon “Buddy” Woods of Satartia, MS; her sister, Flora Mae Hicks of Jackson, MS; and her sister, Mamie Helen Lee of Vicksburg, MS.
Mrs. Gramling is survived by her three sons, Rob Gramling of Caledonia, MS, Edgar Gramling of Indianola, MS, and Wes Gramling (Raychel) of Columbia, SC. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Hunter Gramling of Cleveland, MS, Hayden Gramling of Ridgeland, MS, Chloe Gramling of Hattiesburg, MS, and Woods Gramling of Caledonia, MS.
Jaye, the mother of three boys, never had much opportunity to throw tea parties, buy dresses, or teach her kids how to put on makeup. Instead, she fished and hunted and spent a great deal of time in the outdoors. She was a crack shot with her .270 Winchester. If she pulled her trigger, a deer was down. She never missed. In fact, her very first date with the man she would marry (and stay married to for 45 years) was a deer hunting trip to Merigold Hunting Club. She was fiercely devoted to her boys (Rob, Edgar, Wes, and Bob), and took pride in being the mother of all boys. As a small-town, country girl, spending time in the woods and on the lake was second nature. She had a deep-rooted faith in Jesus Christ and made sure that her boys grew up in the church. Jaye never ever met a stranger. She could talk with folks who she’d just met as if they were lifelong friends. She was incredibly generous. She would give a stranger all the money in her purse if asked. People would knock on her door, asking for help, and she would empty her pantry into their bags. She lived a life of giving and helping others whenever possible. She loved music, and she had the most incredible singing voice. One of her favorites was Patsy Cline, and she could sing every word right along with her.
Jaye is now blessed to be in the presence of her Maker and to be reunited with the love of her life. This is the reward of a life well lived. May she rest in peace.
"His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant..." Mathew 25:21A
