An inmate at the local federal prison was pronounced dead within his jail cell after being discovered unresponsive last weekend.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Adrian Kordell McCleary, 28, was pronounced dead by Pafford paramedics, following multiple life-saving efforts.
Shivers said McCleary was found unresponsive by correctional officers about 12:10 a.m. st the Federal Correctional Institute Yazoo City Medium.
“Another inmate was also in the cell with him, but he was asleep and was awoken by officials upon the discovery,” Shivers said.
“Responding employees initiated life-saving measures,” the U.S. Department of Justice reports. “Emergency medical services (EMS) were requested while life-saving efforts continued. Mr. McCleary was subsequently pronounced deceased by EMS personnel.”
“There were no obvious reasons on my examination to indicate how he died,” Shivers added.
Shivers said his body has been taken to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also notified, according to the DOJ.
“No employees or other incarcerated individuals were injured, and at no time was the public in danger,” the DOJ reports.
McCleary was sentenced in the District of Utah, to a 56-month sentence for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition. He had been in custody at FCI Yazoo City Medium since October 23, 2024.
