Yazoo City hit the road last week in their final game before the Christmas Holidays against the Cleveland Central Wildcats.
The Indians coasted to a 68-49 victory while the Lady Indians dropped a close one, 39-30.
The Indians took control of the game early and never trailed after jumping out to a 24-6 first quarter margin. It was smooth sailing from that point as the Indians dominated on both ends of the floor.
Leading scorers for Yazoo City were Travis Jones and E’ziren Collum with 18 and 14 points respectively.
Other scorers were Jacorion Taylor with nine, Keiron Davis with eight, Jahiem Sims with six, Jaden Rogers with five, and Chris Gates, Javonne Barber, Rickal Session and Cartell Wilburn all with two.
The Lady Indians fell behind early and despite a fourth quarter comeback, couldn’t overcome the Lady Wildcat lead in the 39-30 defeat.
"We got started too late," said YHS head coach Joffre Washington. "It was a one possession game right there at the end and we had back-to-back turnovers that allowed them to score and push back ahead for the final margin."
Lakyra bankhead was the lone Lady Indian to reach double figures with 11 points.
Jer’mya Porter chipped in with six, Jamya McCoy and Makeelah McCullum each had five, Makenzie Johnson had two and Kimora Young had one.
The Indians played in the Brandon Christmas Tournament and the Terry Christmas Tournament earlier this week and will play in the Hartfield Tournament December 29-30.
The Lady Indians return to action December 29-31 in The Big River Steel Tournament in Manilla, Arkansas.
