The struggles continued for the Manchester Academy Mavericks last Friday as they suffered a 40-13 loss to the Indianola Academy Colonels.
The loss drops the Mavs to 0-4 on the season.
The Colonels jumped out to a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter before the Mavs finally scored on a pass from Reeves Gooch to Adam Edgar.
Pierce Jones missed the extra point kick, and the Mavs trailed 14-6. Before the quarter ended, Indianola tacked on another score to make the score 20-6 after one quarter of play.
IA scored on two big plays in the second quarter, a 95-yard run and a 65-yard pass, to take a commanding 34-6 lead at the half.
A third quarter interception returned 31 yards for a touchdown increased the Colonels lead to 40-6, and Joseph Beidleman scored the game’s final touchdown in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run.
Jones’ kick was true this time, making the final outcome, 40-13.
Edgar rushed for 114 yards on nine carries, and Beidleman had 25 carries for 102 yards.
Edgar also had two receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown.
