Dear Editor
I want to commend the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for selecting Mr. Kenny Hampton as the new Chief of Police. In my opinion, Mr. Hampton is the right man, at the right place for the right job. By selecting Mr. Hampton, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen have made their commitments crystal clear. Criminals and lawbreakers are no longer welcome in Yazoo City. Mr. Hampton is fearless, has the right amount of energy, and I believe that he will enforce the laws of this great city.
We need to stand behind the new chief. His job is a tough one, and he will ruffle a few feathers. If you are a gang member, you might want to consider who the new chief is. If you are a dope dealer, well, Chief Hampton will know about you, and your dope dealing days will be over. Wildly firing off firearms in the city limits may cost the perpetrator some jail time. Remember that Chief Hampton cleaned up Tchula, no small feat.
Most citizens want Yazoo City to be a safe and peaceful city. I believe that you have taken the first step in sending the right message to the lawless. Good luck, Chief Hampton!
Sincerely,
Walter J. Patterson
