The youth baseball and softball seasons haven’t even started yet, and our Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department and Yazoo Parks and Recreation are already hitting home runs.
Parks and Recreation has been doing great work at the Wardell Leach Recreational Complex getting the fields ready for the season. They’ve put down new dirt in the infields and have the fields looking better before the season than they’ve looked in years.
Their work isn’t limited to ball fields either. Goose Egg Park is looking incredible these days. The improvements made to the fountain look great, and the park is in fantastic shape overall.
Let’s all do our part to help keep the local parks clean this season.
No matter how good our parks look, it’s hard to get families interested in coming if they don’t feel safe. This has, unfortunately, been a real problem in Yazoo City in recent years, and it has taken a toll on the participation in our local leagues.
Under the leadership of newly elected Sheriff Jeremy McCoy the law enforcement presence during practices is greater than we’ve ever seen before.
When it comes to quality of life issues for our community, our local parks should be a top priority. All you have to do is drive by our parks during the sports seasons to see how many families are gathering to support our local youth.
Many in our community have been pleading for help dealing with the handful of troublemakers who seem determined to ruin our parks for everyone. Our hats are off to our local law enforcement for answering the call.
We’re looking forward to a great season in Yazoo, and we’re thankful for everyone from the volunteer coaches, the team sponsors and the league volunteer leaders who are making it happen.
