A habitual offender finds himself in custody again after being arrested in connection to a Yazoo City shooting last week.
Fernando Weekly was apprehended by local law enforcement last Thursday at Delta Circle Apartments following a shooting near the Amtrak train station in downtown Yazoo City. The Yazoo County Sheriff's Department also assisted with the case.
Police Chief Terry Gann said victim Daryl "Mane" Taylor was shot once in each leg during the altercation around 5 p.m. last Wednesday. Taylor was airlifted to receive medical condition, and his condition is unknown as of press time.
Weekly’s arrest last week was not his first run in with the law. He has made headlines over the past few years in connection to other crimes within the community.
The late Kenny Hampton, who was serving as the city’s police chief at the time, created a special task force in 2021 specifically to hunt down Weekly after he allegedly shot a victim in front of the post office. He fled the scene, cutting off his ankle monitor from the Mississippi Department of Corrections, having been on house arrest for a separate incident.
Weekly was apprehended by the task force four months later in September of 2021 after police officers found him at a Benton home. At that time, he was charged with aggravated assault and parole violation.
Although a suspect has been arrested, Gann encourages anyone with information surrounding the incident to call the police department at 662-746-1131.
