An accused murderer is behind bars after a tip from a concerned citizen led police officers to his whereabouts this week.
Desmond Robinson was charged with murder in connection with a Yazoo City homicide from October of 2019.
Capt. William Nevels, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the information that local investigators received from the public greatly assisted in Robinson’s arrest.
“This arrest was a direct result of the public coming forward with information,” Nevels said. “If you give us credible information, I’m acting on it. No information is taken lightly, and we pursue each tip to the end.”
A tip was given to Interim Police Chief Jay Winstead that Robinson was at Shady Lane Apartments, which is considered Yazoo County. With the assistance of the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, city officers arrived at the apartment complex and discovered Robinson inside an apartment home.
Nevels said Robinson was charged in connection with the murder of Nathan Smith, who was shot to death near Jackson Avenue after leaving a convenience store last October.
Robinson’s arrest is part of an ongoing campaign within the Yazoo City Police Department to bring closure to a number of its open cases. Investigators continue its efforts to track down information in the murders of DeAngelo Brown, Billy Ray Peeples and King Ball.
