Chief Investigator Terry Gann can now say he is an official ambulance chaser.
Local authorities arrested a man who is accused of stealing an ambulance from Warren County. Leading law enforcement on an erratic chase throughout the community, he was apprehended after stopping the stolen ambulance at a local apartment complex.
Issac Cowans was charged with reckless driving in Yazoo County and will be charged with grand larceny in Warren County.
“I can now say that I am an ambulance chaser,” Gann said. “I have responded to a number of calls but never in reference to a stolen ambulance.”
Gann said dispatch first reported an ambulance striking a vehicle at the Shady Lane Apartment Complex.
“About a minute later, dispatch informed us that the ambulance might be stolen,” Gann said.
Gann found the stolen ambulance on West Broadway and began to pursue the vehicle, which led into a chase down Wise Street.
“He was driving erratic, all over on the wrong side of the road,” Gann said. “I continued the pursuit onto Lamar Avenue, with the Yazoo City Police Department assisting in the chase near West Second Street.”
The chase ended at the Lindsey Lawn Apartment Complex, after the suspect stopped the stolen ambulance on the side of the road, where he was arrested.
The ambulance was reported stolen from a hospital in Warren County.
“There is video footage from the cab of the ambulance, showing Cowans driving reckless all the way from Warren County,” Gann said. “He then terrorized the roads in Yazoo County before anyone realized the ambulance was stolen.”
Although Cowans did strike a vehicle, Gann said no injuries were reported.
