Two male suspects, including a former reserve deputy, were charged in connection with allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl.
Jontavis Lang and Jerquarius Carter were both charged with statutory rape with a victim under 14 years old last Friday.
Sheriff Jeremy McCoy said Carter was a reserve deputy with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, but he has since been removed from his post pending the ongoing investigation.
McCoy said deputies first received a call about a 13-year-old girl inside a vehicle with a 20-year-old man.
“When deputies arrived on the scene, the victim was in the car with her mother,” McCoy said. “Through our investigation, we found out that the victim was allegedly having a sexual relationship with Jontavis Lang.”
McCoy said after arresting and charging Lang, the investigation led to another arrest.
“The mother and child told deputies that (Jerquarius) Carter was allegedly involved as well,” McCoy said.
McCoy said Carter, who was serving as a reserve deputy at the time, has since been removed from his duties pending the investigation and is no longer with the sheriff’s department.
