The Yazoo County School District launched its EMPOWER25! strategic planning initiative at Parkview Church on Feb. 7.
This comprehensive process aims to gather stakeholders' input through surveys and discussions, bringing together students, parents, community members, local business owners, clergy, teachers, and school and district administrators to collaboratively shape the district's educational future.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Terri Rhea opened the meeting by emphasizing the district's commitment to equipping students to excel in a rapidly changing world. She highlighted YCSD's vision of providing a vast array of opportunities that combine career and technical training with professional learning pathways, envisioning students as multifaceted economic contributors, civic innovators, and problem-solving leaders.
Throughout the session, participants engaged in dynamic discussions on various topics, including enhancing academic programs, integrating technology in classrooms, and strengthening community partnerships. The inclusion of voices from all sectors of the community ensured a holistic approach to strategic planning, reflecting the district's dedication to meeting the diverse needs of its students.
As part of the EMPOWER25!, YCSD encouraged parents and guardians to participate in the Needs Assessment Survey, employees to participate in the Employee Survey, and students to participate in surveys tailored to lower elementary, upper elementary, middle, and high school levels, respectively.
The meeting also addressed the importance of specialized programs and services to cater to students requiring additional support services. The district offers resource programs, dyslexia services, a gifted program, Career and Technical courses and pathways, various student associations, robotics, and more, ensuring that every student receives the support they need to grow and succeed.
Pastor Charles I. Bradley of Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Bentonia, MS, expressed his optimism about the district's direction, stating, "it's inspiring to see our community come together to support our schools. These strategic discussions are crucial for preparing our students for future challenges."
The YCSD EMPOWER25! strategic planning initiative exemplifies the district's proactive approach to educational excellence, fostering a collaborative environment where all stakeholders can contribute to shaping the future of education in Yazoo County.
